we are allowed a social life at uni!
Oh it is a hard life being LGBT. For those of us who are not blessed with a so-called 'gaydar', pulling can be either completely impossible or just plain embarrassing when living in the average heterosexual context of any city. It is also annoying having to think twice before kissing your same-sex partner in a public place for safety reasons. 'Going out' isn't just about being on the pull however (although it does seem to play a prominent part in student life!).
The LGBTA has increasingly attempted to provide the most diverse social schedule it possibly can - a difficult task when faced with a diverse membership, stingy Durham terms and a city the size of a small Maldivian island. So basically people, as far as the idea of a 'scene' goes in Durham, we are it. We produce a schedule of events for every term which we like to call 'the termcard'. It tells you everything you need to know about where we are going to go, when and why. To read more about the events which regularly feature in the termcard, check out the Regulars page of the What's On section.

Each year we run our two most ambitious social events, supported by other universities across the region - Shipwrecked and the Q-Ball. More details...

new to all this?
We know it can be tricky at first. A helping hand is always available. Or read a story of someone else's very nervous first time and why it was worth it!
